Reception

Welcome to Reception!

Our children have settled incredibly well this term! We have already learnt a lot about each other, through our topic ‘Me and My Community ’, and have been busy making new friends. We recognise that we all have different likes and dislikes and choose to take part in different activities. We are focusing on listening carefully to our new friends and actively responding to questions asked about ourselves and talking about what we are ‘good at’ and want to get ‘better at’. The children have also built good relationships with the Reception team, Mrs Lacey, Mrs Mitzman and Mrs Carberry in Coral and Ms Bennett and Mrs Meacock in Sunstone.

We will be having lots of fun with our Talk for writing activities, this half term enjoying ‘The Owl Babies’! We have explored our own emotions and feelings, as well as those of Bill! ‘The Colour Monster’ has helped us with this – we know that it is ok to have different feelings at different times.

Reception will be exploring additional stories rich in descriptive language through our topics this year which include, ‘Celebrations’ and ‘Oh no, It’s the Gruffalo!’, ‘The Weather’, ‘Growth and Change’ and ‘Africa’ including a visit in the summer to Whipsnade Zoo.

We are also very busy investigating our beautiful, natural outdoor environment and experiencing some Forest School based activities such as making shelters for woodland animals, in our woodland area. Our resident guinea pigs, Starsky and Paprika, have been extremely popular pets to care for! We know all about their needs and how to care for them including hand hygiene!

Reception are very much enjoying exploring their new environment both inside and out. We are looking forward to inviting our parents along to stay and play where we will play with activities which encourage dexterity and fine motor skills which are essential for mark making and emergent writing and a stay and play focus of early reading in Autumn 2.

Reception September 2019

The children in Reception have been learning about different ways to look after ourselves keeping healthy, safe and happy. In Coral class the children made healthy milkshakes together and in Sunstone class the children made carrot cake muffins. Thank you again for your kind donations.
