Welcome to Reception!

Our children have settled incredibly well this term! We have already learnt a lot about each other, through our topic ‘All About Me’, and have been busy making new friends. We recognise that we all have different likes and dislikes and choose to take part in different activities. We are focusing on listening carefully to our new friends and actively responding to questions asked about ourselves. The children have also built good relationships with the Reception team, Miss Thompson and Miss Pinner in Coral and Ms Bennett and Miss Black in Sunstone.

We have had great fun with our Talk for Writing activities, this half term enjoying ‘The Three Little Pigs’! We have created our own houses using a variety of natural materials on a large and small scale.

Reception will be exploring additional stories rich in descriptive language through our topics this year which include, ‘Celebrations’ and ‘Oh no, It’s the Gruffalo!’

We are also very busy investigating our beautiful, natural outdoor environment with our Forest School team each Wednesday. We have made fires and toasted our own marshmallows!

Reception are very much delighting in their specialist lessons including music and PE, developing their expressive and physical talents! We invited our parents along to stay and play with our activities which encourage dexterity and fine motor skills which are essential for mark making and emergent writing.

There's no such thing as a Gruffalo!
